I recently received my bachelor's degree in journalism from Cal State University, Northridge. During my last semester at CSUN, I was a staff reporter at the Daily Sundial while interning at the San Fernando Valley Business Journal.
I've had extensive experience as a reporter for my community college and university newspapers while freelance reporting for L.A. Activist, an online news blog on local activism. My skills are multi-faceted and in addition to print, I can produce multimedia pieces including sound-slides, photo and video.
After years of community organizing, I realized the best way to draw attention to issues facing marginalized communities was by reporting on them in an objective, yet critical manner.
In the hopes to one day become an international freelance reporter and foreign correspondent, I backpacked and trekked through the Middle East, Europe, and South America in the pursuit to better understand how political and religious issues shape the youth culture and social justice movements of their respective countries.
In January I will begin my first international freelance reporting project in Brazil. I will be covering issues of feminist street art, underage sex workers and environmental and indigenous rights. My reporting will take me from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro to the Amazon of the northern state of Para.
